GABLIK, S. Has modernism failed? 1984
As history has shown, even the art that plays with the limits of representation and physicalism can be possessed as a souvenir, remainder or fetish. In 1984, Suzi Gablik published Has modernism failed?, in which she suggested that, since the beginning of XX century, Western Bureaucratic Society has developed a complex and polyhedral panorama where the creative activity has been absorbed by the market, transforming the economical price in its main value. As a final reflection, Suzi Gablik establishes a dichotomy that makes the reader wonder between the artistic suicide or the moral suicide [el suicidio artístico o el suicidio moral] as the basic conflict between modernity and postmodernity.
